SEUIL
hold still —
The door is shut to everyone.
It opens for the hand that holds still.
I · The Antechamber
You were noticed
at the threshold.
Everyone in the room sees the same shut door. Only the recognized are let past it.
There is no password, and nothing to buy at the threshold. You are read the way a good porter reads a guest — by the way you wait. Rest your attention on a lock, and it will open a little. For you, and for no one else standing in the light.
II · The Vitrines
What the house shows
the street is a sliver.
Coats, suits, gowns, horology, objects — each stands in a shadowed vitrine, shown only in a glint. The whole piece discloses itself to one thing only: the key on its tag. Scan it in the house, and its file opens. (Here, you may open one to see what a member sees.)
III · The Register
Everything is here.
You still cannot
quite see it.
The house keeps a record of every piece it has ever admitted — the maker, the hours, the single hand. Members are shown the file. The rest are shown that a file exists.
This is the whole of the promise: to belong to a place that keeps records, and to be one of the records it keeps.

The Admittance Card
Put your name
to the door.
Applications are read by the house, not by a machine. Tell us who recognized you, and we will answer.
Your name is on the door.
The card is with the house. When you are recognized, the door will open — and the light will remember you crossed. Until then, it closes to a sliver.
